Buying a home in West End

The West End is arguably home to some of the best food, the most beloved green spaces, and the most well-dressed inhabitants in all of Toronto. With 16 neighbourhoods in total, though, it’s difficult to generalize about this massive area west of downtown Toronto. The area, which reaches from Bathurst to the Humber River, and from the Gardiner to just north of St. Clair, includes swoon-worthy neighbourhoods like Liberty Village, Little Italy, and The Junction.

Reasons to visit the West End might include a trip to the reclaimed furniture shops that line Dundas Street West in the Junction, or a birthday party in Trinity Bellwoods Park, or date night at any of the upscale restaurants and bars on Ossington Avenue. And regardless of where one is in the West End, there are bound to be some hipsters nearby.

Perusing the local boutiques along West Queen West is yet another great way to spend a day in the West End. This stretch of Queen was even named one of the world’s coolest neighbourhoods by Vogue magazine in 2014 — and if you ask us, it’s only gotten cooler since. Prospective buyers who prefer to set the trends, rather than follow them, will love up-and-coming neighbourhoods like Dovercourt & Wallace Emerson-Junction.

As for nature lovers, there’s nothing in the city quite like High Park, which also happens to take up a large portion of the West End. While it’s slightly more difficult to pop out to a major street to grab a coffee when exploring High Park, that’s the price to pay for the peace and quiet offered by this 400-acre green space. That said, a post-park dinner in Roncesvalles is always recommended.

    Condo Life in West End

West End condos for sale can be found throughout nearly 200 buildings, offering quite a lot of choice for prospective buyers. Those in search of a self-contained, master-planned community, for example, can check out buildings like Liberty on the Park and Battery Park Condos in Liberty Village. This West End neighbourhood also offers something for buyers who want their own front doors and multiple floors of living space: the Liberty Village Townhomes.

Naturally, there are plenty of ‘alternative’ West End condos for sale to satisfy hipster buyers. Numerous lofts are spread throughout the area, including some that are situated in converted churches like the Park Lofts and the Victoria Lofts in the Junction. Enviable industrial conversions can also be found on West Queen West, right across from Trinity Bellwoods Park. And yes, the homes in the Chocolate Company Lofts and The Candy Factory Lofts are as sweet as the names imply.

    Transportation

On top of the network of streetcars and buses that connects residents to various neighbourhoods in the area, many West End condos for sale are also situated close to one subway station or another. The Bloor-Danforth line cuts right through the area, with stops from Jane to Bathurst accessible for those heading east or west.

As for drivers, West End condos for sale are well-situated thanks to a number of major highways that service the area. Residents heading north can start their journeys at the Allen Expressway, from which they can transfer onto the 401 in no time. Alternatively, car owners living to the south will likely use the Gardiner Expressway rather frequently. This east-west highway hugs the shore of Lake Ontario, and offers drivers access to Downtown and the East End, as well as destinations in Etobicoke and Scarborough.
